Methods of work
Each board is thoroughly screened for quality of grain and for any
preexisting splits or heart checks.
Joinery used is traditional mortise & tenon pinned, dovetail, and dado
joinery. This type of joinery is superior and stands up over the course of
time.
allow for movement.
Sanding, orbital sanders leave swirls in the grain of the wood taking away from
it's beauty, therefore I do not use them. All work is sanded by hand.
All finishes are hand rubbed using tung oil varnish to bring out the beauty of
the grain.. The entire piece is finished, even where it is not visible. This
allows for equal absorption of moisture during the seasonal changes. Five to
six coats of finish is applied and then hand buffed.
Using these and other proven methods guarantees a finished product that is
well worth the time and investment.
